About Us
Since 1994 we've been mentoring climbers to help them expand their knowledge and become self-sufficient climbers at the New River Gorge and beyond. We offer private guiding and customized instruction for beginner to advanced climbers, who want to expand their knowledge, learn new skills, and gain experience to help reach their climbing goals.
All of our guides and instructors are not only climbers to their core, they are fun to climb with, and are skilled teachers who can help you meet your climbing goals. They're all trained and certified by the American Mountain Guide Association as Single Pitch Instructors (at minimum) and are dedicated professionals who take their job seriously.
We're headquartered in Water Stone Outdoors, your one-stop climbing shop at the New. The shop is open year-round, and the guide service operates seasonally from March to November (or whenever winter sets in). Have a trip booked? Excellent experience. Nina understood what my goals were for climbing, provided the structure for me to practice and gain confidence, and then I accomplished my goal of leading my first trad climb. This has been a goal for several years, but I was spinning my wheels taking more classes, buying more gear, reading more books. Nina knew what I needed in order to have the confidence in myself to do it. And I did! Three routes! I am already planning on trad climbing with friends to keep at it. Thank you Nina!!

Wonderful time on my first excursion with new river mountain guides! Nina had a great outline for me, a newbie to outdoor climbing. She provided excellent education for safety intertwined with about 10 climbs that helped me get ready for the tough climbs at the end of the day. I will definitely use this guide company again. Tim did a great job leading my wife and I for a great day of climbing. He picked a crag well suited to our skill level and talked us through some of the trickier moves. Tim was certainly knowledgeable and all around just a great guide and a pleasant person to spend the day with. We would climb with him in the future for sure. I should also mention that NRMG did a good job of making sure I had the necessary info for our trip well in advance but also sent it again like the day before our trip which I appreciate because it’s a pain sometimes looking up older emails.

We had an excellent half day of climbing with Tim. Can’t say enough how awesome he was; super knowledgeable, friendly, and fun. He challenged us just enough to still enjoy the climb and we felt super safe under his guidance. Really fun time. Would love to come back and climb with him again.
