About me

Brian’s love of climbing started 20 years ago when he stepped off the boat of his collegiate rowing team and into a dusty climbing gym in Columbus, Ohio.  Early on he spent months living in a van, traveling to destinations across the US as well as British Columbia, Mexico, and France, where he tried his hand at all forms of climbing and mountaineering.

It was bouldering that held his attention initially, but back home in Ohio there wasn’t a lot to be found.  He wandered the backwoods in search of boulders and started the Northeast Ohio Climbers Coalition (now the Ohio Climbers Coalition) to address access issues at some of the areas he came across.

8 years ago he took a break from climbing to run a marathon and an ultra marathon.  When he returned to climbing a year later, he turned his attention from boulders to big rock walls.  Especially appealing were the cracks that split these walls, providing a natural path upward.  He enjoys teaching others how to climb these routes as much as climbing them himself.  He would love to teach you, so that you don’t have to spend years figuring out how to climb your dream route. :)
