New River Mountain Guides
About Us
Since 1994 we've been mentoring climbers to help them expand their knowledge and become self-sufficient climbers at the New River Gorge and beyond. We offer private guiding and customized instruction for beginner to advanced climbers, who want to expand their knowledge, learn new skills, and gain experience to help reach their climbing goals.
All of our guides and instructors are not only climbers to their core, they are fun to climb with, and are skilled teachers who can help you meet your climbing goals. They're all trained and certified by the American Mountain Guide Association as Single Pitch Instructors (at minimum) and are dedicated professionals who take their job seriously.
We're headquartered in Water Stone Outdoors, your one-stop climbing shop at the New. The shop is open year-round, and the guide service operates seasonally from March to November (or whenever winter sets in). Have a trip booked? Meet your guide on the outdoor patio located at the rear of the store off the back parking lot.

Trip: Half Day Climb
Guide: Dan A.
We had a fantastic half day instruction, climb, & rappel trip. Dan was very patient with the newbie and managed to meet the needs of the seasoned climber as well. We both left feeling accomplished and tired. Communication was excellent from start to finish & all needed equipment was provided. Thank you for a great trip of WV climbing.

Trip: Half Day Climb
Guide: Dan A.
Dan is an excellent guide! He is friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible. He planned our trip so that we could be successful and challenged at the same time. We explored a few crags of varying difficulties with short approaches to maximize our climbing time. Dan knows the area very well and provided an excellent climbing experience!

Trip: Half Day Climb
Guide: Dan A.
I’m 60+ years old, and wanted to try rock climbing. I came by myself , so I had the undivided attention of my guide. Dan did a great job of starting me out on a relatively easy climb, and increasing the difficulty on each climb. I was able to get in 4 climbs, and a rappel as well. Dan was great at explaining and giving me pointers as I climbed. The day exceeded my goals. If you’re new to climbing, don’t assume that you can’t do it. I will definitely be back.

Trip: Group Instruction_Half Day Climbing & Rappelling
Guide: General I., Dan A., Tim L., Jeffery H., Patrick O., Craig R.
We brought a group of 14 to climb and we had an incredible time. They were very easy to book with, and always available for questions leading up to the trip. While we were there each person had at least one shot to try all of the climbs that we wanted. The instructors helped us stay safe, learn about climbing, and have a ton of fun. We would totally do it again, and recommend New River Mountain Guides to anyone looking to climb in the area.
