Hunter Banks Fly Fishing first opened our doors in February 1985. Our mission has remained true for 40 years: foster the fly fishing community in Asheville and the surrounding mountains of Western North Carolina. The two key efforts that drive our mission are offering products that we feel support community members with the best fly fishing gear on the market along with services that ensure fantastic days on the water. All of this is backed by our brand's promise: offer industry-leading customer service and support for every angler every day. We pride ourselves in creating an environment where we relish the opportunity to connect with beginning and advanced anglers alike. Whether you're a beginning angler curious about the sport and want to know how to get started or a seasoned veteran looking for a new wading boot to ensure you're wading confidently, our team of passionate and friendly fly fishing professionals take great satisfaction in providing the best support possible. The moment we met up with Chris, we knew it was going to be a fun day. He’s a high-energy guide and clearly loves life. The fishing was tough, but Chris kept swapping us out, trying unique rigs and fishing styles I hadn’t seen much before (I.e., swinging a streamer under an indicator with another secret touch I’ll let you find out for yourselves). By the end of the day, we’d figured out what they wanted and definitely outfished the other boats on the river. Great guy, great to spend time with. Highly recommend!

Everything about this trip was great. It's close to the shop (less than 20 minute drive) but far enough out that you're definitely in the country. The river is beautiful - it's clear and you can see some massive fish stacked in there. The runs and pools are nice too. The best part is the quality of guides at Hunter Banks. We fished with Miller, and he did a great job teaching the new fly fisherwoman who joined me. The combination of all these qualities makes Ivey the perfect spot to take someone new to the sport. I would definitely do it again!

Forrest was a great guide. He was so laid-back and so full of fun. It was a tough day fishing, but we did amazing. He was able to find fish and help me to catch fish even when the water was low. I like that he had me on the Watauga instead of on the south Holston was so much more traffic. I love the solitude that we had on the river. We didn’t see another boat the whole day.
