New River Mountain Guides
About Us
Since 1994 we've been mentoring climbers to help them expand their knowledge and become self-sufficient climbers at the New River Gorge and beyond. We offer private guiding and customized instruction for beginner to advanced climbers, who want to expand their knowledge, learn new skills, and gain experience to help reach their climbing goals.
All of our guides and instructors are not only climbers to their core, they are fun to climb with, and are skilled teachers who can help you meet your climbing goals. They're all trained and certified by the American Mountain Guide Association as Single Pitch Instructors (at minimum) and are dedicated professionals who take their job seriously.
We're headquartered in Water Stone Outdoors, your one-stop climbing shop at the New. The shop is open year-round, and the guide service operates seasonally from March to November (or whenever winter sets in). Have a trip booked? Meet your guide on the outdoor patio located at the rear of the store off the back parking lot.

We had a super fun time climbing with Jeff! We were a group of four moderate level climbers and had the pleasure of two back to back full days with Jeff at the New. By the end of day two we had nothing left to give and gained some fabulous skills and memories. Jeff is knowledgeable in all aspects of climbing and is just plain fun to be around. Thanks again New River Mountain Guides for exceeding expectations. Looking forward to some more adventures.

Our Girl Scout troop had a great outing learning how to do natural rock climbing. The outing was geared to the level of each girl since we had beginning climbers and two experienced indoor climbers. We appreciated the staff’s professionalism in guiding our outing and all the equipment appeared newer and in tip top shape. Our group was able to rock climb and do rappelling. It was awesome to have women leading the activities along with Jeff for our Girl Scout Troop.

Our trip exceeded all our expectations!! We had Jeff on day 1 where we learned the crucial things needed for safe and successful outdoor climbs- including an intro to the Warriors way approach to climbing/lead climb/catch and fall. Day 2 we had Jordan who’s stoke meter is off the charts and we got to lead our first climb outdoors at the New. Only 2 days but jam packed with action, learning, climbs and awesome instructors. Couldn’t have been more thankful and psyched!!
