Trip: North Rim of the Grand Canyon

Great trip overall. This is my second go on this North Rim trip and my fourth Western Spirit trip. The only reasons for less than 5 stars are what I feel is a slight decline in the quality of the meals and guide communication. Though Chris and Spencer did a good job, the food was a notch below what I've had on other trips. I understand that cooking for that many people over camp equipment is hard, and perhaps my experiences on other trips has led to unreasonably high expectations. To be blunt, it just sort of felt like Chris and Spencer are not that in to cooking. Which is fine, if a little disappointing. Finding guides who are also camp cook aficionados must be really hard. Second, communication was not great, very informal and vague. Our "map talks" did not feel precise or confident. And there was little talk of the natural history, flora/fauna, cool tidbits of info that usually happen around camp. Maybe this has something to do with this being the last trip of the season. But, no one got lost or hurt, and we all had a great time. If I were to rate the trip on a scale of 1-10, it'd be a 9.

This trip totally exceeded my expectations! Chris and KC were freaking amazing. They took care of everything the eight of us threw at them without missing a beat. Camp set up and food prep was quick and the food was fantastic and our drinks were always cold! Kudos to you for hiring such great guides!
