Trip: Oakridge Singletrack

Guide: Anna R., Shane O.

Amazing guides!. You cannot go wrong with WS for a good biking adveture. One of the best option for a boys trip!. I totally recomend it. Just make sure that the level (intermediate, advanced, expert) is good for your crew and you won't have regrets.

Correction; this review is for the Mt. Hood tour (Oakridge was smoked out) First let me say Shane and Anna were great. They kept the group entertained, moving, and fed with acumen. The first day pickups with the re arranged schedule was a bit hashed up. I felt bad for the two guys from Boston who literally had to take buses and taxis from PDX to the trailhead at Bennett Pass. The first day ride felt like too much to start with. Started with almost 14 miles of mostly climbing (3,000 ft) to the highest elevation of the trip at 6,000 ft. Most of us live at under 1,000 feet, so there is a bit of extra breathing involved. Don't remember much from the 6 miles of downhill into camp. The second day ride turned into an unfortunate but avoidable slog. For some reasons the guides chose to not ride the planned route. Instead they decided to go with an "office" recommendation to ride the trails around Boulder Lake. This route included the Hidden Meadows Trail 472. That trail was an unrideable mess. There were probably 50 downed trees along the route we had to climb over and under. Okay, understand windfall happens. But the conditions of the trail were documented on Trailforks. The last posting from July 2023 stated there were tons of downed trees and hike-a-bike for almost the entire length. It was an adventure but not the kind I expect from a guided tour. Day 3 ride was good. A long climb followed by a fun descent. The guides gave options for another long climb (and descent) or a return to camp. Plus in the afternoon they shuttled the crew to a lake for swimming. Day 4 Anna and Shane showed their mettle. We were doing a big ride out Surveyors Ridge when a guest went over the bars and broke a collar bone. They were able to organize the other riders, get the injured to hospital in Hood River, find him a hotel room, then get back an pickup those riders not prepared to do a 30 mile out and back ride. 5 stars to Anna and Shane. Day 5 Dog River was a lot of fun. Our guides were up and had breakfast ready by 7, then got the whole camp packed up and out by 9, and then on the trail by 9:30. Had lunch by noon and on our way in plenty of time to make connections.

Thanks again Western Spirt for a great trip. The Guides (including Guide in training) were all top notch and should be considered true assets to your org. Each one made the trip special in their own way. I wouldn't change anything.

What an incredible trip. The views, the food, the people and conversations. I have to say, our guides, KC and Colton, are truly what made the trip so special and memorable. They were organized, hardworking, and flowed together as a team flawlessly. Their food was so damn good — goat cheese dips, fish tacos, grilled chicken and potatoes, salads you’d find at a nice restaurant, and a cookie-brownie unreal concoction…to name just a few. But most of all their care, kindness and thoughtfulness is what stood out. Sitting around the campfire telling stories and joking around, I call both of those guys my friends, and they’re part of the story we will all tell of why this trip was so amazing.
