I had an excellent experience with Valhalla Guides, and my guide Ben H absolutely made the course. Ben is a super cool dude—very experienced, highly knowledgeable, and a true expert in his field. What really sets him apart is that he genuinely loves teaching. He meets students exactly where they’re at and knows how to make learning both effective and fun. He followed the AIARE 1 curriculum thoroughly while also incorporating the Plan–Ride–Debrief protocol seamlessly into his own teaching style. Ben was patient, encouraged questions, gave and accepted feedback openly, and really focused on making sure I understood the concepts—not just checked the boxes. A lot of guides care, but Ben clearly wants to teach, help you truly learn, and contribute to building a stronger, safer alpine community. This guy is going places. If you’re taking an avalanche course, Ben is the guide you want.
