Started in 2014 by Tim and Michelle Borland and their three kids, the Bar SZ Ranch is a true family business with a mission to help others “forge their legacy.” Set on 2200-acres in its own valley with iconic California oak trees and golden hills; views of the surrounding mountains and Pinnacles National Park; and painted, sunlit skies, this working ranch offers a unique, destination experience with grit.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at SZ Ranch. Everyone was warm and friendly. My daughter and her friend loved walking around the ranch and petting the horses, goats, sheep, dogs, and cats. They participated in the animal feedings and rode horses. Coming from Los Angeles, it was a welcome and much needed respite from phones, traffic, and noise! Only thing I didn’t love is the lack of showers, flushing toilets, and the hard water but I’d be happy to go without those things again to go back. Thanks Tim and Michelle for being such wonderful hosts!

Many thanks to Michelle for being flexible and shifting the day of our trail ride to avoid the rain!! We had a fabulous experience brushing and saddling our horses prior to the ride. The ride was absolutely beautiful around the 2,000 acre ranch. We highly recommend the accommodations, trail ride and mustang experience at the Bar SZ Ranch.

My mustang experience was full of educational information about wild horses and the humane methods for training them for ‘domestication’. I enjoyed every aspect of the experience from brushing the horse , to the physicality of training in the ring to desensitizing the horse. I had the pleasure of working with peanut who did great despite my novice instructions. Michelle was a fabulous instructor who was an expert in her field and a clear and kind communicator.

This was a great experience on the farm! We greatly enjoyed interacting with all the animals - horse, goats, chicken, dogs and baby bunnies!! We also learned a lot about the animals on the farm and their purpose. I highly recommend this experience!
