I recently took an avalanche safety course with Erik Fullmer and Wasatch Mountain Guides, and I can’t recommend them enough. The course was incredibly educational and truly transformative for my confidence in backcountry recreation. Before taking the course, I felt uncertain and hesitant about venturing into avalanche terrain. Now, I not only feel more prepared but also have a wealth of resources to continue learning and refining my skills. The hybrid course packed a lot of complex material into two field days and an online class, and while it was impossible to absorb everything in that short time, Erik provided an extensive collection of resources to help me study and retain the information at my own pace. Avalanche safety is a nuanced and challenging subject, but the way the course was structured made it approachable and engaging. Erik was a fantastic instructor. Patient, knowledgeable, and attentive. With a class size of just two people, the instruction felt highly personalized. This intimate setting made it impossible to fade into the background or leave without a solid understanding of the material. Erik tailored the experience to our needs, answering questions thoroughly and giving individualized advice. The two days in the field were not only educational but also incredibly fun. Erik planned our routes thoughtfully, ensuring they were both enjoyable to ski and practical for learning snow and conditions assessment. The hands-on opportunities to evaluate snowpacks and discuss decision-making in real time were invaluable. Overall, this course provided tremendous value. If you’re looking to improve your avalanche safety knowledge while having an unforgettable time in the mountains, I wholeheartedly recommend Erik Fullmer and Wasatch Mountain Guides. They set you up for success not just during the course but far beyond it.

Took Avy 1 in December and the class was great. Loved the 4:1 ratio for the class. Erik was professional, engaging, and accommodating to the students. Learned a ton during our two field days and am really happy with the experience. Would definitely recommend folks check out WMG for avy training!

I had a great time learning about BC ski touring with Erik F. last week. He's very knowledgeable, super patient and an excellent teacher. I learned a lot about uphill technique, route planning, snow conditions and avalanche hazards. Looking forward to going out w/ Erik again in Feb., 2025. Highly recommended!

Despite less than desirable conditions (stormy, cold) it was an experience that I will treasure and cant wait to continue my learning and love for the back country!
