Started in 2014 by Tim and Michelle Borland and their three kids, the Bar SZ Ranch is a true family business with a mission to help others “forge their legacy.” Set on 2200-acres in its own valley with iconic California oak trees and golden hills; views of the surrounding mountains and Pinnacles National Park; and painted, sunlit skies, this working ranch offers a unique, destination experience with grit.

My niece, nephews, and daughter had an amazing time. We were not quite sure what to expect when we signed the kids up for this but this is so much more than just riding round the arena. They taught the kids about how to care for the horses, riding techniques, did riding games with them, and even did a mini barrel racing activity with them (all age appropriate and safely). Both Michelle and Maddi were fantastic teachers and the other women who were helping were amazing as well. If you have a young kid who love horses, this is a perfect activity for them!

Both my 2yo and 6yo daughters lost their minds with how fun this experience was. My husband and I actually enjoyed ourselves an awful lot, too- you’re really never too old for something like this. They have so many animals at this ranch and are so knowledgeable, they take such time and have patience with the kids, explaining everything and making sure everyone is safe. They obviously care a lot about the animals and treat them well. They loved the baby bunnies, horses and kittens especially. Don’t miss out on this one!

Such an unforgettable experience for my 6yo daughter! Michelle was such an attentive and knowledgeable guide for her, and all of the other guides were helpful and kind as well. I wasn’t sure what to expect but they made sure to include an informational session, horse brushing, and even let the children help in the process of putting on the saddles and other gear. They went above and beyond, not being stingy with their time, and had a nicely organized format in the arena. There was plenty of time for riding and everyone had so much fun. Highly recommend!
