Trip: WSCF Clinic: The Art of "Flow" Climbing with Becca Droz

Guide: Becca D.

Amazing experience with Becca! She has a way of making everyone feel welcomed and comfortable right from the start. The context of the clinic was so impactful, but the way Becca relayed all of the information and provided us a safe space to have an open conversation was what really resonated.

Trip: We Send Climbing Festival

Guide: Chelsea R.

This is the first climbing event I've ever attended, and I went in with no expectations (especially since it looked like we were going to get rained out all weekend) but I can honestly say I had a wonderful time! The staff and volunteers were all super nice, the packing list and FAQs were well thought out, and they did a great job with the setup and facilities available. They stayed flexible with the weather and made sure everyone had a space to be safe, warm, and having fun. The clinic I signed up for was awesome and made for a super-memorable experience. I met so many awesome people and can't wait to climb with them in the future! I really appreciate the effort that went in to creating this space for women and gender-queer/non-conforming climbers and making the event happen, I hope to see it again next year!

Trip: WSCF Clinic: Outdoor Climbing with Aubrey Runyon + Guides

Guide: Ada J., Jess W., Sadie S.

Ada, Finn, and Aubrey were excellent! They were all super knowledgeable and made this clinic awesome in spite of the less-than-ideal weather! I've only climbed outdoors a handful of times so it was nice to get a good refresher on skills, learn some new ones, and just get on the rocks. They were accommodating and very supportive of everyone and made sure we were all having a great and memorable time!

Trip: WSCF Clinic: Catching + Falling: Becoming a Better Leader

Guide: Jess W., Meg N.

I really appreciated all the care and consideration that Jess and Meg had in making the clinic as meaningful as possible despite the adverse weather conditions! It meant a lot that they were willing to spend the day with us discussing fears related to falling and catching. It also meant a lot that Meg was committed to going out to the crag as long as it wasn't raining; it was the optimistic push everyone needed and we all got in a few climbs! Overall, I really loved the discussion and the camaraderie that our group fostered and I think it really helped create an environment to ask questions, get tips, and learn from each other. I know many of us were looking forward to getting practical exposure/practice taking falls and catching on lead, which most of us did not get to do. However, it was good for me to practice falling on top rope with some of Jess and Meg's tips in mind. With the weather our of anyone's control, I will talk about the things I think they did very well: - Discussed in-depth (discussion-based) the blocks related to falling - Discussed strategies involved to normalize and manage physical, emotional, mental blocks with falling - Demonstrated all the safe(r) ways to take a fall so we know what to strive for - Encouraged us to take falls in different ways Things to dive more into for the future - We did not talk about good belay strategies or catching as much I hope to see everyone again!

Even though the festival this year had tough conditions (sleet, hail, rain, wind), Chelsea and her team were quick to adapt and kept the psych high. I loved the planned events, and you could see the love and sense of community from all the attendees. Fingers crossed the weather will be better next year cause this festival is amazing!

Trip: Climb + Coffee - March

Guide: Chelsea R.

I attended Climb + Coffee hosted by Chelsea which was a really fun way to spend a Sunday morning. I’ve attended other events put on by Chelsea, and she consistently creates a welcoming and kind environment for all. Climb + Coffee is a safe space to get outside for the first or thousandth time. This particular Climb + Coffee was made even better by an amazing guide, Meg, who was so cool and informative. Volunteers Brooke and Anneke provided great vibes as well! Definitely join one of Chelsea’s events if you’re looking to connect with and learn from amazing people.
