Really enjoyed the tour and Minan (sp?) was an excellent guide. Very informative and the creative approach developed by Mike Reynolds and his biotecture team over the years is so impressive and clever. Everyone who cares about sustainability must see this community!

Trip: Earthship Movie Time

Guide:

Glad we got to visit Taos and learn more about the Earthships! We were initially worried that the movie time option might not give us access to a person who could answer questions (vs. the Guided Tour on other days of the week) but there was a staff member on hand and we were able to ask questions after viewing the movie clips. Worth the extra $5 vs. the Self-Guided Tour; the $15 Movie Time option lets you see an additional building, watch video clips that give context, and ask questions. Format was fairly flexible: they seem to let you do the self-guided part of the tour before or after the scheduled movie time, and we didn't feel rushed. Our movie time slot was on a Monday morning, and it ended up being just the two of us, so it was fairly quiet (but this wasn't a bad thing).

Trip: Guided Tour

Guide:

So, I did the Earthship tour in summer 2018, and it was so fabulous, I convinced my friend to come with me on our trip to Taos. Well, it wasn't the same at all. Our tour guide was enthusiastic and gave lots of types of information--kudos to them! But that could've been done in 45 minutes, so the script could use revision. When you revise, please include more info, such as how window and interior wall orientation in the different seasons creates climate control. In other words, the six panels in the learning center at the very end of the tour is what the tour needs to show us and explain to us. More importantly, though, is that last time, we went into several different Earthships, not just the two plant spaces of two Earthships by the visitor center. It's really missing something when you can't see the whole house and how it functions. Not sure if the deletion is because of the new rental business you're in or ? But last time we drove to several different places and got a "show" not "tell" experience. Can't say I'd recommend this tour as it is now to other people. That's a shame because the project is so worth it!
