We had an excellent full day trip with Guillard Climbing at Looking Glass Rock. Pete was extremely safety conscious, friendly, and great with kids, which made it a perfect experience for me and my 12-year-old daughter. He taught us climbing basics, belaying, and safety in a way that was easy to understand and confidence building. I appreciated that Pete was also very courteous with other guides and climbers on the mountain, which showed professionalism and respect for everyone. Before the trip I found his Instagram posts helpful in learning more about him, and I also called him to talk through where we would climb based on our location and experience. It gave me peace of mind to know exactly who our guide would be. This was a fantastic experience, and I recommend Guillard Climbing to anyone looking for a safe, fun, and memorable climbing adventure in Western North Carolina.

I took myself and my two daughters, 15 years old, and 19 years old, and the 15-year-old was very scared to go. She’s afraid of heights it was very reluctant to go to begin with. But we planed the trip and met up with Pete, and he could not have been nicer or more accommodating. He took his time to make sure everybody had the right size and the right gear for them. Then, he took us up to the climb site, and had us all put our safety gear on, even had me to wear a helmet, even though I was not climbing, just stayed below to take pictures and carry the waters for my daughters. He really put safety first. I asked him from the beginning, to find their limits and what they’re comfortable with, and then just do a little bit more, so when they come back, they will have a real filling of accomplishment. That is exactly what he did. After he climbed first and made sure all the ropes and gear was securely attached, he came back down, and took plenty of time to explain to the girls what they were going to do, and what to expect. Was very patient with any questions they had. My 19-year-old daughter went first, which is not a very very much and she went up very fast, laughing the whole way. Even taking time at the top to do her blogs. She came down the same way, laughing, he had my 15 year-old daughter at the bottom, assisting my older descent, while he stood right beside her, encouraging her and directing her. Then it was my 15 year old daughter‘s turn. Took some time for her to come up, with her, stopping a few times along the way, and we could tell that she was Not very comfortable and wanted to come down, but not because of anything wrong, just because of her anxiety. But, she made it all the way up, around 80 feet, then came back down. With a really big smile on her face. My older daughter got a chance to go on another climb. My younger daughter was happy to be at the bottom just helping. But, when we got back, both daughters have not stopped talking about it, and have said several times that’s the best part of their trip. They both loved it so much and are asking when they can go back. Pete was absolutely amazing, and we definitely look forward to doing this again, and he would be the only one we would call. Not only is he very experienced in doing this, but was so great with us and especially my daughters.

I have been climbing for years , wanted my grand children to have the experience of being on a rock face , 12 year old girl, 10 year old boy . Pete was the absolute best choice to be their guide . His knowledge was second to none , patience even better . He gave my grandchildren an experience over three days they will remember for the rest of their lives ! Thanks Pete
