Larry makes the trips enjoyable with his experience and laid back style. Beautiful weather and beautiful scenery. Just the reset I needed.

Trip: Grayson Highlands (10/4-10/6)

Guide: Mike S.

We Hiked Dolly Sods in West Virginia since Grayson Highlands was closed from damage caused by the hurricane. The group met up in a parking lot and we began our 10 mile hike on the first day. This was strenuous but satisfying. I probably couldn’t have walked another mile if I tried. It was very hilly and my pack weighed around 38 pounds. The Jews were beautiful. Ranging from open fields to rocks, to forests, streams and mountains. We stopped for lunch on some rocks with beautiful views of the mountains. The first night we camped near a river so we had a water source to fill up our camel backs. We all set up our tents and cooked our food. There were 8 of us and we all talked around the fire. The second day was a 5 mile hike that included a stop at Lions Head Rock (attached picture). We camped by a river the second night as well. We talked about leadership and what it meant to each of us. It was a bonding experience and we all came up with trail names for each other. The third day we hiked about 7 miles back to the car and I’m not going to lie, it was all uphill. It tested not only your physical ability but gave you a sense of accomplishment at the end. Mike had a surprise waiting for us at the end that made the uphill climb worth it in retrospect. This trip was a great mental reset for most of us and used nature as a natural therapy for all of us. I will definitely go on another one of these trips and plan to try to get a group from work to go. I felt very safe and comfortable with this group. I was the only female and surely slowed them down a bit. They were a great group of people to hang out with for the weekend. Mike the guide knew his stuff and was able to easily navigate around the area.

Wow, where do I start? I cannot find the right words to express how blessed I was going on this trip. I laughed, cried tears of joy and I was constantly challenged to go past what I thought were my limits. I wont deny that there were some hard times during the hike but I pushed through them. This program is an outstanding service and I cant wait to go on another trip! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this life changing experience!
