About me

Brad grew up in a small forested town in southern Maine, only an hour and a half from the White Mountains of New Hampshire where he developed a passion for the outdoors at an early age. He would go on to attend the University of New Hampshire as a student in Outdoor Education, a degree designed for those passionate in the outdoors and aspiring to make a career in guiding and teaching others in the outdoors. During this time, Brad learned how to climb safely and responsibly through the classes he was required to take for his major. He would spend every fair-weather weekend climbing multi-pitch adventures in the White Mountains to refine his skills. In the summertime away from school, Brad was guiding backpacking and canoeing trips in northern Maine, but would still make the two-plus hour trek to New Hampshire every day off he had to get a few pitches in.

When Brad finished his time in college, he moved to Arizona on not much more than a whim and began to truly explore the various climbing potential of the western US, climbing in places such as Yosemite, Red Rock, the North Cascades and more. Brad has constantly been focused on making himself a better climber, putting much of his energy into learning technical systems to be as efficient as possible on the wall. He now splits his time guiding in Arizona and Colorado, following the nicer weather to continue to provide rock climbing experiences to those who are seeking to learn. Brad thoroughly enjoys bringing people into the mountains and being a part of their journey when developing these skills for themselves.

Brad is a Wilderness First Responder and a Certified American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Single-Pitch Instructor. He will be taking his AMGA Rock Guide Course this Spring.

Trip: A Glorious Day on Granite Mountain

With Brad B. on November 11, 2023

I had a great day at Granite Mountain with Brad. We climbed Dislocation Direct in 3 pitches. This was my first multipitch climb, and it went just about as well it could have. It was so fun. Learning about multipitch trad & working on crack climbing were my personal goals for the day, and I definitely met my goals! Brad was knowledgeable, flexible, and professional, which is exactly what you're looking for in a guide. As a result, I felt confident the whole time and was able to successfully test out skills that were newer to me. It all came together very well. A bonus was that almost nobody else was there, at least that day. The solitude and the views were unbeatable. I would say I really got what I was looking for out of my trip. I came away with a better understanding of multipitch trad, which helps inform where climbing takes me in the future. Things could only have been better if there had been more hours in the day, but of course that isn't possible. I live in Massachusetts and am not often in Arizona, but next time I am, I will definitely book again. Thanks, Brad, for helping me on my journey to becoming a more knowledgeable and skilled climber.

The lead climbing course was amazing! Brad did a great job of finding a fun crag and teaching me the fundamentals. Before this class, fear frequently kept me from actually finishing routes while leading. I feel much more comfortable now!

Trip: A Day in the Dells | Private

With Brad B. on October 25, 2023

Fantastic experience! Brad was friendly, encouraging and extremely knowledgeable. Climbed at least 10 different routes of various difficulties and types in multiple locations around the Dells, including an intro to crack climbing. Never felt rushed and had time to review some anchor building info I had forgotten and learned some new stuff about placing cams and nuts. Location was picturesque. Couldn’t have asked for a better day!

What a great day! Our group included three children (ages 6, 9, 12) with varying degrees of comfort and experience climbing. Scott & Brad matched their energy and helped each of them to push their comfort level. They were both professional, skilled, safety-oriented climbers who set us a ease and made it an enjoyable day. Thank you!

It was filled with awesome content that we were all happy to receive. The 5 students all have experience with technical rope rescue, this class was such an eye opening experience. Filled with content that on the recreation side of rope use. We learned a lot and can't wait to get out to the crag to put it to use.
