Highly recommend San Juan Expeditions! Recently took my AIARE 1 as a hut trip and it was amazing!! Our guides, Chris and Jordan, are incredibly experienced, intelligent, and skilled backcountry tourers. I was highly impressed with their level of professionalism and knowledge; plus how well they taught and shared that background. This translated so well in the hut/classroom and in the field. They challenged us to think critically, engage in the curriculum, and support each other as we developed our skills. We spent the majority of the weekend in the field: touring, reading terrain and conditions/forecasts, and skiing! It was so fun being together all weekend, based out of the hut because it encouraged discussion and questions throughout the entire course. Always learning but also spending quality time in a beautiful place with amazing people. Thank you Jordan and Chris!! Would love to book another trip with you!

Excellent guide Service! Recently completed a Hut based AVY 1 course with Chris T and Jordan D. Both of these guides were exceptional at what they do. Not only did the teach the course well they also spent the time and effort to help you dial in your backcountry touring skills. These guys are up early to make your coffee and highly engaged through out day until bedtime. I highly recommend Chris, Jordan and the crew with San Juan Expeditions!

The guides at San Juan expeditions are second to none. They are incredibly insightful, patient and passionate about what they do. If you’re going into the backcountry, this class is a MUST!

So much more than I even expected!! I can’t recommend this course enough. I learned so much: how to plan a trip, how to identify avalanche terrain (in the actual terrain), how to make decisions in a group, and even ski and gear use tips! I had heard that Avy 1 courses were mostly digging pits and learning snow science (which is cool!) but this was so much more. The third day, our class of 6 people planned and led the tour and were able to get feedback and discuss our decisions with the instructors as we went. The instructors were AWESOME. They had a ton of experience, patience, and wisdom to share. Plus, we did a ski tour all three days and were able to enjoy really fun powder and tree runs as we learned along the way! Worth every penny!!!!!
