Renata Calmon

About me

Renata Carvalho is a senior guide and the Program Director at Open Air Guides. Originally from Brazil, she discovered her passion for climbing there and has been pursuing adventures on rock ever since. Renata is an AMGA-certified Multipitch Instructor and has guided climbers of all levels throughout North Carolina and beyond. Her climbing journey has taken her to some of the world’s most iconic destinations, including Patagonia, Thailand, Spain, and Morocco. She specializes in traditional climbing and has a deep love for crack systems and larger objectives. In addition to guiding, Renata is a filmmaker and the creator of Women are Mountains, a documentary celebrating the strength and stories of female climbers. For her, climbing is more than a sport—it is a way to connect with people, landscapes, and cultures around the world.
