This scenic hike is in the beautiful bitterroot valley south of Stevensville, MT. You will enjoy hiking through an old burn that gives the opportunity of seeing new growth trees, wildflowers, bear grass and views for as far as the eye can see. You will have a 360° view of the surrounding mountains and valley. From about midway you will be able to view the lookout tower on St. Mary's Peak. We will reach Glen Lake, a high mountain lake, about 3 miles in. This is a moderately difficult hike where you can expect to gain several hundred feet in elevation. The hike itself starts 8 miles up a dirt road, so you must be comfortable driving one lane mountain roads. We will take frequent stops for photos, snacks and viewing. You can expect to set aside the better part of the day for this adventure. Please do not bring your elderly dog or young children as this hike can be tough on them. I recommend bringing bear spray though with the open view it is highly unlikely to have any "surprise" encounters. Binoculars are also highly recommended for views and birdwatching.
