Two-Day Slab Climbing Practicum at Cochise Stronghold

Location

Tombstone, Arizona

Group Size

Duration

2 days

Trust Your Feet. Trust The Friction.

Slab climbing is one of the most misunderstood and rewarding styles of climbing. Unlike steep climbing that relies heavily on strength, slab climbing demands balance, precise footwork, body awareness, and confidence in movement.

This two-day practicum is designed to help climbers develop the skills and mindset necessary to move efficiently on low angle granite terrain. Through a combination of single pitch climbing and a classic multi-pitch objective, participants will learn how to trust friction, improve balance, and build confidence on terrain where technique matters more than strength.

Day one focuses on skill development and mileage while cragging at the Isle of You. Participants will spend the day refining movement patterns, exploring body positioning, and learning how subtle adjustments can dramatically improve efficiency on slab terrain.

Day two puts those skills into practice on one of Cochise Stronghold's classic slabby multi pitch routes, such as The Peacemaker on Sheepshead. Throughout the climb, instructors provide coaching and feedback while helping participants apply the techniques learned during the previous day.

Participants should be prepared for a full weekend experience, including camping in Cochise Stronghold between climbing days.

Additional Information

Participants will camp in Cochise Stronghold between climbing days. Personal camping equipment is required unless otherwise specified.

This course emphasizes movement, technique, and confidence building rather than climbing difficult grades.

Learn to trust your feet, move with intention, and discover why some of the world's best climbers consider slab climbing the ultimate technical challenge.
