Fundamentals Group Clinic: Gain control and confidence on the trail.

MTB Skills Factory presents a clinic to help you learn, or refine fundamentals of mountain biking. Whether you are a beginner or an intermediate rider who is looking to level up their bike control, fundamentals are the key for you to become a more confident rider. We will cover body positioning for downhill, braking techniques, efficient climbing, basic cornering skills, and lots of tips for specific obstacles on trails nearby at Brush Mountain Park.

Cost: $44 per person. This clinic is sponsored and subsidized by the New River Land Trust, the Town of Blacksburg, and the New River Valley Bicycle Association to keep the cost less than a 1/3 of normal pricing. Consider signing up for a few clinics!

Who should take this clinic?

  • This all - gender clinic is appropriate for riders who are beginner to intermediate riders. For beginner riders, you should have at least some experience riding a mountain bike on single track trails and generally feel comfortable riding a bike in non-challenging terrain like a paved bike path.

  • Beginner riders will benefit from getting started with correct technique, instantly making you more proficient and confident to handle more terrain safely.

  • This is an excellent introduction to mountain bike instruction and will be an inclusive space for all abilities looking to gain more confidence on the trail.

What to expect?

  • We’ll start with an intro to listen to your previous experience and goals, then set expectations and a plan for the clinic.

  • Then, we’ll move into a warmup and skills assessment, basically play for while, have fun, and get out bodies moving.

  • The majority of the lesson will break down each elemental skill with a quick explanation, short demo, then LOTS of practice and individual feedback.

  • We’ll be using both open areas (like the grass field at the skills area or open areas along the trail) and individual trail features for practice time. After some time working in open areas, we’ll head out to practice on trails!
