About

The “Progression Camp” is a week of climbing camp geared towards rope climbing. Campers will work with guides to develop their knowledge of rope systems, knots, hitches, anchor building/cleaning practices, traditional gear placements, and so much more. Climbers will get to learn the art of crack climbing, hone their focus on sport routes, and test their mastery of climbing and comfort at heights on a multi-pitch route.

Pre-Reqs

  • little/no outdoor climbing experience
  • 2+ years of indoor climbing experience
  • ≥ 13 yrs old

Participants traveling by car should arrive at KMAC at 11:00AM on the course starting date. Pickup time is 11:00AM on the last day of the course. Additional airport pick up and drop off fees may apply.

A sample itinerary is described below. The schedule can change due to weather, group skills, and other factors.

  • Day 1: Students arrive at KMAC office at 11:00am. Head to camp for orientation, equipment issue, lunch and a week overview. Skills review at Performance Park if weather allows.
  • Day 2: Sport climbing the Thumb and Needle.
  • Day 3: Lumpy Ridge, RMNP. Single and multi-pitch climbs. Crack climbing introduction.
  • Day 4: Rest day activities; showers, swimming, snacks downtown, and maybe a tour of Trail Ridge Road!
  • Day 5: Multi-Pitch 101 and more sport climbing at Deville III.
  • Day 6: Bouldering at Emerald Lake/Chaos Canyon/Wild Basin.
  • Day 7: Multi-Pitch outing!
  • Day 8: Breakfast. De-gear. Students depart KMAC 11:00 am
