Intro to Bike Park

Learn Bike Park Essentials

Have you been riding mountain bikes for a while but are newer to lift-service bike parks? These gravity focused trails are steeper and packed with features to maximize your fun per descent. Getting on/off the lift can be stressful with your bike and merging trails often put riders of different abilities on the same path.

This intro to bike park clinic is designed to teach you the skills needed to confidently navigate your day at lift-service gravity mountain bike parks. We'll make sure loading / unloading the lift is a breeze and focus on body position / movements needed to be successful in steep terrain. We'll cover critical braking skills to help you feel confident and in-control. We'll also cover cornering on berms, a common feature at bike parks. Along the way, we'll learn common etiquette to ensure a fun and safe day at the bike park.

Who should take this clinic:

  • Riders who are comfortable on Green and Blue rated pedal access trails but rarely leave the ground.

  • For XC riders who have never experienced a Bike Park. We will tailor this lesson so you get the most out of it and pick terrain within your ability based on a skills assessment.

Who are the instructors?

What to expect:

  • We’ll start with an intro to listen to your previous experience and goals, then set expectations and a plan for the clinic

  • We'll practice loading / unloading the chairlift with plenty of help for your first time

  • Then, we’ll move into a skills assessment and move through the essential pre-requisite skills including Body Position / Balance, braking, line choice and cornering

  • After some practice on individual features, we'll pick trail terrain that suits your ability and work on applying these skills to actual trail terrain.
