Want to try your hand at crack climbing and multi pitch climbing? Let our skilled AMGA certified guide lead you safely to the top of this 4 pitch climb. With a mix of hand crack, off-width and fun stemming, Castleton Tower is a must do for climbers visiting Moab. Castleton has for a long time been a test piece for every trad climber, it stands impressively alone, lording over Castle Valley.
Rated 5.9+ on Mountain Project, however the grade is sandbagged and we could call it solid 5.10 desert tower climbing. Must be able to comfortably climb 5.9 in the gym and be comfortable with a steep, 1.5 hour hike.
What to expect: Castleton is about a thirty minute drive from Moab. With a steeper, one and a half hour hike for the approach, be prepared for an early start. You'll start the climb on one of the two moderate routes (depending on weather, one is sunny, the other is shady), following your guide up and removing any trad gear they left for protection. Several belay stations are hanging belays. The summit has 360 degree views of the Colorado River corridor, Castle Valley and the La Sal Mountains.
