Wasatch Mountain Guides are professional IFMGA and AMGA certified Mountain Guides. We guide backcountry skiing, rock/alpine climbing and teach courses to prepare you for bigger world wide objectives like Matterhorn and Denali. The two owners Todd Passey and Willie Benegas are both IFMGA licensed Mountain Guides (internationally certified) with over 50 years of combined guiding experience. Both guide all over the world and on every continent. They choose the Wasatch as their home in large part because of the great access to skiing and climbing.

Cancellation Policy

Reservation, Cancellation, and Refund Policy Reservation Information:

Payment in full is due at booking in order to confirm your reservation for all private trips booked through Wasatch Mountain Guides, Payments may be made via Paypal check, credit or debit card, or wire to Wasatch Guides. Courses are all designed with a minimum and a maximum number of participants. In the event of low registration, we prefer to give you the option to pay a surcharge that will cover the costs of a smaller group.

Cancellation Policy:

When you book a course/trip/adventure with Wasatch Mountain Guides, you agree to our cancellation policy. Understand that if your travel does not go according to plan in any way or for any reason, we cannot provide credits or refunds outside of what is described below. Our policy was carefully crafted with respect for our clients, our administrative staff, and our guides.

1. If you cancel for any reason 30 days before the course starts, you may rebook a later date for 100% credit, subject to availability, or receive a refund minus a 5% cancellation fee. If you cancel between 14 and 30 days before the course start, you may reschedule, subject to availability. Between 14 and 30 days, there are no refunds. If you cancel within 14 days from the course start, no reschedules, or refunds are available. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Injury/illness
  • Weather, mountain, and travel conditions (please see #4 below)
  • Personal scheduling changes

2. We reserve the right to cancel any course at any time. Reasons for cancellation might include (but are not limited to) natural disasters or inadequate enrollment. Due to the wildly variable nature of mountain weather and other factors that might result in a cancellation, there is no set timeline for this decision.
a) Suppose we cancel your course before its start due to natural disasters, hazardous weather conditions, or other reasons. In that case, you may reschedule for a later date or receive a credit that never expires.
b) If we cancel a course midway through due to unforeseen circumstances or weather conditions, we can offer partial credits depending on how much time was spent with the instructor or guide on the given date.
c) If we cancel a course before its start for low enrollment, there are a few options:
i. You may reschedule for a later date or receive a credit.
ii. You may pay a “guaranteed greenlight” rate, which allows the course to run for a significant discount off the private rate. The Wasatch Mountain Guides office will work with you on the specifics here, as it is different for every course.
iii. You may receive a full refund.

3. On any course, our guides reserve the right to remove any person for any reason. These reasons generally stem from a person jeopardizing the safety of themselves or another team member. This includes a person unable to climb or ski/ride at the level necessary for the chosen objective. There are no refunds in all these cases, and the client is responsible for any additional costs incurred in leaving the course.

4. Climbing, skiing, and other Wasatch Mountain Guides courses are based outdoors in a mountainous environment. Thus, challenging weather conditions are an inherent variable impossible to eliminate. Additionally, driving in the mountains can be challenging at times. Winter weather can significantly impact driving times, with temporary road closures, chain control, traffic, slow driving conditions, poor visibility, cold temperatures, and other issues possibly contributing to delays and challenging conditions. There is a certain amount of inherent risk involved with winter travel. We recommend that all participants take the time to prepare for unforeseen circumstances or delays.
We will make every effort to reschedule or offer advanced notice of route changes if and when possible. There will be no refunds for trips already in progress and trips will be charged according to the above cancellation policy. For longer trips, peak climbs, and ski mountaineering, unforeseen conditions including weather can affect field conditions and subsequently client safety. We reserve the right to turn around, change, or modify all trips at any time without refund or credit. Participants for all trips are responsible for evacuation costs if necessary including additional trailhead shuttles, ambulance, and emergency services.
