Women+ Mountaineering Leadership Course 2

Group Size

2 people per guide

Duration

5 days

The goal of this course is to build upon the mountaineering skills covered in Women+ Mountaineering Leadership Course 1. We deepen prior skills, such as glacier travel and navigation, and introduce new skills on alpine rock.

On the first day of our course, we will meet at Mount Erie to cover new rock climbing skills. This will include anchor building, placing protection, movement techniques, ascending and descending techniques, and using the terrain around you.

You will have the option of staying at the Lake Erie campground, which we will book for students, or arranging your own accommodations in the area.

On day 2, we will meet at a coffee shop, have a morning meeting and navigation session, and then move towards the mountain.

On days 2 through 5, we will move to one of a few peak options to apply these skills in mountainous terrain. Students will have the opportunity to lead the rope team on glaciated terrain with guidance from the instructors. Instructors will lead rock sections, as this is a newer skill.

Students will get a lot of hands on experience with navigation, route selection, planning, alpine rock, and steep snow.

When the opportunity presents, we like to introduce additional skills such as multipitch snow climbing.
