The "Steeps"Clinic
Intermediate / Advanced Technical Trail Riding for Steep Terrain
Do you feel like a passenger on the bike, just reacting to terrain, especially when it gets steep? Do you want to feel more like a driver of the bike, able to initiate movements in technical terrain on demand as you need them?
This clinic is designed to help you break out of your current ability plateau. We’ll dive into the skills needed to tackle technical trail features with intentional control, allowing you to tackle steep rock rolls, loose chutes, steep rocky or rooty trails with confidence and intention.
Topics Included:
-
How to achieve a better centered position for maximum stability and mobility
-
Front brake control for grip and speed management
-
Initiating small movements like wheel lifts or pressing through the feet to smooth out the trail.
-
How to use better trail scanning techniques to be prepared for multiple obstacles in a row.
-
Line choice for control, speed, and safety.
-
Mental approach for technical features
Who should take this clinic?
-
This all-gender clinic is appropriate for riders who are intermediate to advanced level riders, already riding blue and black rated trails in the region.
-
Intermediate level riders will benefit from getting started with correct technique, instantly making you more proficient and confident to handle more terrain safely.
-
Advanced level riders will be able to refine their technique on features they are already riding to be more in control and ride safer
Who are the instructors?
- Kristian Jackson - PMBIA Level 4 Instructor + Rocky Knob Trail Boss
- Josh Whitmore - PMBIA Level 3 Instructor + Head Coach of MTB Skills Factory
What to expect?
-
We’ll start with an intro to listen to your previous experience and goals, then set expectations and a plan for the clinic.
-
Then, we’ll move into a warmup and skills assessment, basically play for while, have fun, and get out bodies moving.
-
The majority of the lesson will break down each elemental skill with a quick explanation, short demo, then LOTS of practice and individual feedback.
-
We’ll be using both open areas and individual trail features for practice time. After some time working in open areas, we’ll head out to practice on trails!
