Most backcountry skiers and riders eventually come to a line they want but are not equipped for. The Ski Mountaineering Skills clinic changes that.

This is a technical, full-day clinic focused on the skills that apply in steeper and more demanding terrain. Your K7 guide covers crampon and ice axe technique used alongside ski or splitboard carry, steep skinning and transition management, slope stability assessment, and how to move efficiently across varied mountain terrain without burning out.

The clinic can be built around steep lines in the Australian backcountry or structured as preparation for international objectives, including glaciated terrain in New Zealand, Canada or further afield. On request, the day can include roped ski techniques: crevasse rescue, snow anchor construction, rappelling and belaying for skiers and splitboarders.

Meets at Guthega or carpooling from Jindabyne.

Prior backcountry experience is required. Advanced skiing or boarding ability is necessary. This clinic is for riders who are already comfortable in the backcountry and ready to push into steeper ground.
