Most people ski or snowboard for years without ever leaving the resort boundary. But all you need to do it safely is a guide and the right gear. This tour helps you with all of it!
The Backcountry Starter Tour is a full-day, hands-on introduction to alpine ski touring or splitboarding, built around the skills that matter for the fastest progression. You'll learn to move efficiently with skins, understand all the layers and safety equipment that is needed, learn how terrain shapes risk, and develop the decision-making habits (the mountain mindset, as we call it) that experienced backcountry travellers rely on every time they head out.
The tour runs from Thredbo but Guthega is available on request. Select your preferred location at booking. Note: during early and late season, conditions at lower elevations may limit availability to Thredbo only. No prior backcountry experience required but confident blue run skiing or boarding ability is necessary. We can help you source the right rental equipment and answer any questions before the day.
