From Late June through Late July our private hut at Black Peak, Wanaka offers some of the most quickly & easily accessible frozen waterfall ice climbing in New Zealand. Our ice-climbing site at Black Peak is not easily accessible by the general public which means you can enjoy your ice climbing without competing for space on a route.
This course is the perfect starting point for being introduced to the winter alpine environment and what is involved with travel in it. At the end of the course you will have a well rounded idea of what it is to be part of a mountaineering party, being able to follow more expereinced members on a mountaineering team, attempt summits via routes graded 1 to 2 (NZ grade) or undertake guided ascents of more technical objectives.
