Program Overview:

Summiting Mount Shuksan is a challenging but rewarding experience. The climb is three days and involves glacier travel, scrambling, and technical rock climbing. Climbers can expect to navigate steep terrain and exposure, with breathtaking views of the North Cascades along the way. The most popular route is the Fisher Chimneys, which offers a thrilling ascent up an exposed ridge and crossing multiple glaciers. Summiting Mount Shuksan is a feat that requires adequate physical conditioning and mountaineering skills, but the panoramic views from the top make it all worthwhile.

Itinerary:

Day 0:

Zoom chat which will address any needed equipment, necessary training, and any other topics of interest before going into the course.

Day 1: Arriving at Mount Shuksan

  • Start your adventure by driving to the trailhead of the Fisher Chimneys Route on Mount Shuksan. Make sure to have a hearty breakfast and all necessary gear before beginning your hike.

  • Embark on the trek to the Fisher Chimneys, a strenuous and challenging route with varied terrain. Enjoy the abundant flora and fauna along the way, including picturesque alpine meadows and majestic waterfalls.

  • Take a break at the Lower Curtis Glacier when you reach it, and enjoy lunch while reveling in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.

  • Set up camp at the high camp on the Fisher Chimneys, where you will be rewarded with breathtaking sunset views over the North Cascades.

Day 2: Summit Day

  • Rise before dawn to allow enough time for the summit push. Pack your daypack with essential climbing gear, snacks, and hydration.

  • Start the ascent towards the summit of Mount Shuksan, focusing on route-finding and skillful climbing. Absorb the stunning sunrise casting its gentle glow over untouched wilderness.

  • Reach the summit pyramid, the final push before Mount Shuksan's top. Celebrate this momentous achievement while reveling in the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, lakes, and glaciers.

  • Begin your descent, navigating carefully to ensure safety. Enjoy the journey back to high camp, savoring the sights that may have been missed during the climb.

  • Upon returning to high camp, celebrate your successful summit with a well-deserved hot meal and hot drinks. Spend the evening recounting your experiences, sharing laughter, and basking in the camaraderie of fellow climbers.

Day 3: Descending and Return

  • Morning: After breakfast, break camp and head for the trailhead where we part ways.
