Castlewood Canyon is another Front Range climbing area with a dedicated following of local climbers. Just near the town of Castle Rock south of Denver this conglomerate area has a multitude of smaller cliffs that make it a great venue for beginners just learning to climb or experts wanting to work on single pitch skills like learning to sport lead or how to build top rope anchors. Because it isn't located near a major road or river it tends to be quieter and can be the best place to go on a warm winter day. While summer mornings tend to be pleasant it can be a little warm in the afternoons when it's sunny. Despite being less than an hour from Denver the area is frequented by deer and other wildlife and fall colors can make for wonderful scenery in this quiet Front Range locale.
