Alpine Rock Essentials

Location

Bozeman, Montana

Group Size

Max 4 people

Duration

8 hours

This program covers the requisite skills to tackle many classic alpine rock routes. It begins with the foundations of rock climbing where participants learn about climbing techniques, knot tying, belay skills, rappelling, and multi pitch climbing.

Focus on the remainder of the program then turns to applying the skills to alpine terrain – traveling light, fast, and efficient while ascending alpine routes. This part of the program covers the approach: pacing; third and fourth class terrain; and route finding. Once on the climbs the spotlight will be on rope management; alpine belays and anchors; more route finding; and different means of descent. Previous climbing experience is not required. However, participants should be in good physical condition; and have some backpacking or hiking experience.
