Mountaineering Essentials

Location

Bozeman, Montana

Group Size

Max 4 people

Duration

8 hours

This program is designed for climbers wishing to progress towards independence or just learn tools for more efficient travel on mountaineering objectives. Whether your goal is to climb, Denali, Rainier or Granite peak, this course will set you on the right track. The curriculum will cover the fundamentals of mountaineering: snow and ice climbing, crampon technique, self arrest, glacier travel, crevasse rescue, rope management, efficient pacing, snow anchors, route finding, and clothing options.

To solidify and gain competence in these skills, we offer follow up days on longer routes applying what was learned. Previous climbing experience is not required. However, participants should be in good physical condition; and have some backpacking or hiking experience.

Most will benefit in booking this as a 2+ day progression.
