SPI Exam | Free Climbing Day
Max 15 people
Easy, Intermediate, Hard
Every year San Juan Expeditions trains and assess aspiring rock climbing guides in the Durango, CO area before they are awarded an American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) certification.
Candidates for this certification are experienced climbers who are looking to take their recreational climbing expertise and turn it into a career leading rock climbing outings in a single pitch environment.
What does this have to do with me? During the course of the exam, aspiring guides are required to facilitate volunteer clients through a full day of climbing under the observation of an IFMGA mountain guide. That is where you come in. As a volunteer client, you participate in the exam simply by climbing while the guides execute their training to provide an awesome outdoor experience.
Volunteer clients are not required to have any of their own equipment (if you do have your own you are welcome to bring it) and there is no experience required to participate. Part of the assessment of the guides is to be able to accommodate all different skill levels when climbing.
There is no cost to participate, the day of climbing is completely FREE but there are limited spots. If you are interested, please complete the booking process to be added to our roster of volunteer clients for our upcoming SPI Exam.
Look forward to seeing you out there!
